  1. Is the appliance already purchased, or are you still shopping? If you're shopping, you can design the installation around the product. If it's already in a box in the hallway, you're adapting the space to the unit—a different problem with different constraints.
  2. What's your primary constraint? Space, plumbing, or ventilation? Under-sink RO installs fail on plumbing. French door fridges fail on space. Dryers fail on airflow. Dishwashers fail on stability. Naming your constraint tells you where to focus your energy.
  3. Are you doing this once, or repeatedly? If you're a property or facility manager installing appliances on a regular basis, document everything. Write down the measurements, the connection types, the failure modes. That checklist has caught 47 potential errors for me in the past 18 months—which is 47 service calls that never had to happen.

It took me six years and over 200 installation calls to understand that most brand problems are installation problems. The appliance isn't defective; the setup is. The water filter leaks because a quick-connect wasn't seated. The dryer won't heat because the vent is kinked. The fridge feels warm because the vents inside are blocked.
